Ryder Cup Defends Record European Ticket Prices as Fans Blast €499 Daily Cost

Ryder Cup organizers are defending record-setting ticket prices for the 2027 tournament at Adare Manor in Ireland, even as fans and prominent figures around golf accuse the event of pricing ordinary supporters out of one of the sport’s marquee competitions.

Daily general admission tickets for the three competition days, September 17–19, will cost €499, or roughly $585. That is the highest ticket price ever announced for a European-hosted Ryder Cup, nearly double the €260 top daily price for the 2023 event in Rome. These are not resale prices – these are the official box office charges.

While the price remains below the $750 fans paid for last year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York, the comparison has done little to blunt criticism. Fans reacting to the announcement described the pricing as “ridiculous,” “disgraceful,” and “absolutely preposterous,” with many arguing the event has moved beyond the reach of its traditional supporter base.

Richard Atkinson, the European Tour Group’s chief Ryder Cup officer, acknowledged the increase in an interview with BBC Sport NI but defended the pricing as appropriate given the scale of the event.

“We acknowledge it’s an increase from Rome,” Atkinson said. “That was four years ago and a lot has happened in the world since then. We are lower than Bethpage. We’ve tried to make this as accessible as possible to a wide demographic of people.”

Organizers have emphasized that lower-priced options remain available, including practice-day tickets starting at €89, junior tickets from €20, and a Thursday ticket priced at €179 that includes the opening ceremony. Irish residents were also given a priority purchase window beginning April 24, ahead of a wider global ballot opening June 3.

Even so, the €499 competition-day ticket has become the focal point of the backlash. Critics have noted that Ryder Cup attendance also carries significant additional costs for travel, lodging, food, and transportation—expenses that may be amplified by staging the event at the luxury Adare Manor resort in County Limerick. Fox Sports cited Irish reporting that some private accommodations in the area are being advertised for tens of thousands of euros for the week.

The criticism has extended beyond fans. Mark Fulcher, caddie to Justin Rose, called the prices “extortionately high,” saying the trend in sport appears to be to “bleed true fans dry.” Former Ryder Cup player Ian Poulter also weighed in, describing the increase as a “sad day” for loyal golf fans.

Atkinson countered that fans will receive more than simple access to the course, pointing to more than 20,000 grandstand seats, big screens on every hole, and an expanded entertainment program aimed at keeping spectators engaged throughout the day.

That defense mirrors a broader trend across major live sports and entertainment events, where rising prices are increasingly justified by packaging tickets as part of a larger, all-day experience. For many fans, however, the 2027 Ryder Cup announcement has landed as another example of high-demand events shifting away from broad accessibility in favor of premium pricing.

The 2027 Ryder Cup will mark the tournament’s return to Ireland for the first time since the K Club hosted the event in 2006. Luke Donald will again captain Europe after leading the team to victories in Rome in 2023 and Bethpage Black in 2025. The United States has not yet named its captain, though rumors are swirling Friday morning that Jim Furyk will return to captain the side.
