Off-Broadway’s 'Heathers the Musical' Casts Peyton List as New Lead Heather

Peyton List will join the Off-Broadway revival of “Heathers the Musical” as Heather Chandler beginning January 26, 2026. The production is currently playing at New World Stages, the same venue that hosted the musical’s original Off-Broadway run.

List will take over the role from Jodie Steele. Steele recently returned to the production for an encore engagement after originating the role of Heather Chandler in the musical’s West End premiere. Prior to Steele’s return, McKenzie Kurtz portrayed the character in the U.S. production and concluded her run earlier this month.

“Heathers the Musical,” officially opened Off-Broadway on July 10 and features  music, lyrics, and book by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy, The revival arrived in New York following a run at London’s The Other Palace and brings the cult favorite back to the venue where it first gained Off-Broadway recognition.

Based on the 1988 film, the musical centers on Westerberg High student Veronica Sawyer, whose social standing changes dramatically after she becomes associated with the school’s most popular clique, known collectively as the Heathers. As Veronica is drawn deeper into their world, she encounters a rebellious new student whose presence sets off a series of dark and unexpected events. The production is directed by Andy Fickman.
