Former First Lady Michelle Obama will head out on another leg of tour dates promoting her memoir, Becoming, next week, and she just announced a special group of moderators who will join her on the 18-date trek.
Late-night hosts Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert will take turns moderating the tour, varying per date. Additionally, Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson of the podcast 2 Dope Queens will moderate, as well as chef Rachel Ray, news anchors Gayle King and Robin Roberts, and Valerie Jarrett, the former Obama advisor.
Obama previously toured last fall, making stops in cities like Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Boston, Brooklyn, and Denver, among others. The second round of dates will kick-off in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 13, followed by talks in Vancouver, Tacoma, Ft. Lauderdale, Portland, and Atlanta. She’ll also make stops overseas in London, Paris, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam before wrapping-up in Nashville, Tennessee mid-May.
Becoming was released last year via Penguin Random House. The novel focuses on both Obama’s professional and personal life, reflecting on her time growing up in the South Side of Chicago and her journey to becoming the First Lady in the White House. She noted that Becoming is a “story of my humdrum plainness, my tiny victories, my lasting bruises, my ordinary hopes and worries” and shows how she is proud of her journey, “blemishes and all.”
“I hope that this tour will inspire others to reflect upon and share their own stories – all the joys and sorrows, all the scars and renewals – so that together, we can better recognize that each of us, in our own way, is in a constant process of becoming,” she said.
