Former First Lady Michelle Obama has announced a book tour this fall in support of her new memoir, Becoming.
The tour will make stops in arenas across the country, kicking-off in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois the same day the book drops – November 13. Along the way, she’ll make stops in cities like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Detroit, and Brooklyn before wrapping-up in Dallas, Texas on December 17. Moderators have not been announced yet.
Becoming discusses Obama’s personal and professional life, reflecting on growing up in the South Side of Chicago and her journey to becoming the First Lady in The White House.
“This fall, I’d like to share that fuller story with all of you on my book tour,” Obama said in a statement. “It’s the story of my humdrum plainness, my tiny victories, my lasting bruises, my ordinary hopes and worries. It’s the story of who I am, truly, and I’m proud of it — blemishes and all.
“I hope that this tour will inspire others to reflect upon and share their own stories – all the joys and sorrows, all the scars and renewals – so that together, we can better recognize that each of us, in our own way, is in a constant process of becoming.”
Penguin Random House scored the book deal – which is said to be worth up to $65 million – and is set to be released in 28 languages worldwide. In an announcement from Penguin Random House and Live Nation, it was noted that the book tour will include “intimate and honest conversations” with Obama.
Ten percent of ticket sales will be donated to local charities, schools, and community groups in the cities she will be visiting during the 10-date run.
