Maya Rudolph is getting ready to head to Broadway this spring, joining the hit comedy “Oh, Mary!” at the Lyceum Theatre for a limited engagement.
The former Saturday Night Live star will make her Broadway debut as Mary Todd Lincoln beginning April 28, performing in the title role for an eight-week run through June 20.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of being Cole Escola,” Rudolph said in a statement. “Oh, Mary! is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you’d be surprised. It’s such an honor to play the role of Mary, especially after so many iconic Marys have come before me. So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime—as a miserable, suffocated, alcoholic woman—is a real dream come true.”

The show is currently led by John Cameron Mitchell in the role of Mary. The cast also includes John-Andrew Morrison as Mary’s Husband, Simu Liu as Mary’s Teacher, Jenn Harris as Mary’s Chaperone, and Tony Macht as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant. Understudies include Hannah Solow, Martin Landry, and Julian Manjerico.
Written by Cole Escola, “Oh, Mary!” centers on Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, offering a wildly irreverent and absurdist take on the historical figure. The production imagines Mary as a cabaret-obsessed alcoholic navigating the final days before one of the most infamous moments in American history.

The play premiered Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024, where its initial run was extended three times before transferring to Broadway later that year. Since opening at the Lyceum Theatre, the production has set box-office milestones, becoming the first show in the venue’s 121-year history to surpass $1 million in a single week.
The critically acclaimed production won two Tony Awards in 2025, with Cole Escola taking home Lead Actor in a Play and Sam Pinkleton winning for Best Direction of a Play.
Notably, “Oh, Mary!” is xpanding beyond Broadway. A West End engagement is currently scheduled at London’s Trafalgar Theatre through July 18, and a North American national tour is set to launch from Hartford, Connecticut, in September.
