Eventbrite is betting that the future of live experiences will feel less polished—and more human.
The ticketing and discovery platform today released Social Study 2026: Reset to Real, its inaugural trend report examining how Gen Z and Millennials are reshaping in-real-life (IRL) culture. Drawing on platform data and a survey of more than 4,000 consumers across the U.S. and UK, the study points to a decisive shift away from performative, highly produced gatherings toward experiences that feel spontaneous, participatory, and deeply personal.
According to Eventbrite, the “Reset to Real” reflects growing fatigue with digital life and curated social feeds. Younger audiences are increasingly seeking events that embrace imperfection and unpredictability—think secret lineups, neighborhood block parties, and intimate gatherings where attendees help shape the experience rather than simply observe it.
That appetite appears to be translating into real-world demand. Nearly eight in ten Gen Z and Millennial respondents say they expect to attend more events in the year ahead, with interest particularly strong among young parents, men, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Authenticity, the report suggests, is becoming the new luxury: 79% say it’s important that events feel spontaneous or unpredictable, while 58% are more likely to attend if an event takes place in a unique or unexpected venue.
One of the most notable shifts identified in the study is the rise of what Eventbrite calls “soft socializing.” Rather than attending events where networking or social interaction is the primary objective, many consumers prefer environments where connection happens naturally and on their own terms. Nearly half of respondents say they like to control how and when they interact, and a similar share say they prefer to focus on the experience itself rather than social pressure.
Participation is also emerging as a key driver of engagement. Events that invite attendees to contribute—through hands-on activities, collaborative art, or community brainstorming—are gaining traction as an antidote to passive scrolling online. One-third of respondents say they hope future events offer more opportunities to actively participate, while 50% report being more likely to attend cause-based events that provide a purpose beyond entertainment.
Localism plays a central role in the Reset to Real narrative as well. After years of digital-first interaction, many consumers are rediscovering the appeal of neighborhood-based experiences. Nearly 90% say it’s important that events help them feel connected to their local community, and significant portions of respondents express interest in supporting local businesses and uncovering hidden local gems.
The report also highlights growing enthusiasm for niche and hybrid events that blend different interests, cultures, or identities. From indie book clubs paired with wine tastings to genre-crossing social collectives, specificity is replacing mass appeal. Sixty-nine percent of respondents want to attend more events that combine different worlds or interests, underscoring how personal taste is increasingly defined by overlap rather than labels.
Eventbrite concludes that the most successful live experiences in 2026 won’t necessarily be the biggest or flashiest. Instead, they will be the ones that feel unrepeatable—grounded in presence, participation, and genuine connection. For organizers and promoters, the message is clear: audiences can instantly sense when an experience feels staged. Designing events with intention, agency, and room for surprise may be what ultimately brings people back together in meaningful ways.
The Social Study 2026: Reset to Real is based on a survey of 4,051 individuals aged 18–35 conducted in July 2025, alongside an analysis of U.S. and UK Eventbrite platform data from August 2023 through July 2025.
