How to Transfer Ticketmaster Tickets Safely
Transferring Ticketmaster tickets is simple, but a few small mistakes can lock your friend out at the gate. Here is the clean way to do it.
We earn a commission from qualifying Ticketmaster purchases. This doesn't change your price.
You bought tickets for a group and now need to get them into the right phones. The transfer flow looks simple, but timing, email typos, and wallet issues cause real problems at the door. Here is how to do it without drama.
When transfer is available (and when it isn't)
Most Ticketmaster tickets are transferable, but not all of them. The ticket detail page in My Events shows a Transfer button if it is allowed. If that button is missing, transfer is blocked — usually because the artist or venue restricted it to prevent resale (common for Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and many theater shows).
When transfer is blocked, your options shrink to:
- Everyone enters the venue together with the ticket holder's phone
- The ticket holder uses SafeTix to share a mobile-only entry at the gate
- You eat the cost if plans change
Check transfer status the day you buy, not the week of the show.
The actual transfer steps
Log into Ticketmaster from a browser or the app, open My Events, tap the order, then Transfer Tickets. Select the seats you are sending, enter the recipient's first name, last name, and email address, then confirm.
The recipient gets an email with an Accept Tickets link. They must click it and either sign in or create an account using the same email you sent it to. If they accept on a different email, nothing happens and the ticket stays in limbo. Once accepted, tickets vanish from your account and appear in theirs.
You can cancel a pending transfer from the order page if they have not accepted yet. After acceptance, you cannot pull it back.
The four things that go wrong
Most transfer failures come from one of these:
- Email typo — double-check before hitting send;
.comvs.conhas burned more people than you would think - Different email than their Ticketmaster account — they either need to accept on the original email or add the correct address to their existing account
- Last-minute transfers — some venues stop accepting transfers within a few hours of door time
- iPhone wallet sync lag — tickets sometimes take a minute to populate in Apple Wallet after acceptance; tell them to open the Ticketmaster app first to force a refresh
Never send a screenshot of the ticket instead of transferring. Screenshots do not scan — they use rotating barcodes.
For groups of four or more
If you bought six tickets for a group, transfer them one person at a time with a short message confirming receipt before sending the next. Batch-sending to six emails at once is where mistakes pile up.
For corporate or box-suite tickets that belong to a season ticket holder, transfers sometimes route through a different portal (MLB Ballpark, NBA Account Manager). Ask the account holder which system they use before the day of the game.
What to do at the gate
Tell your group to open the Ticketmaster app before they get to the venue. Once they are in the line, service is often a mess and the ticket might not load. If a phone dies, the ticket holder can re-send the transfer from their own phone if they still have a data connection. If not, every venue has a box office — bring your ID and the email confirmation, and they can usually reprint.
For mobile-only events, do not try to add the ticket to Apple Wallet until you are inside or very close. The app's native view is what the scanner wants.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I transfer a Ticketmaster ticket after the show starts?
Transfer usually closes anywhere from a few hours before the event to right at door time. After that, the ticket holder needs to be present with the original phone.
What if I sent the transfer to the wrong email?
Go back to the order, cancel the pending transfer, and resend to the correct address. Once the wrong email accepts, though, you cannot get the ticket back.
Why is transfer disabled on my ticket?
The artist, venue, or team restricted it — almost always to control resale. There is no workaround other than all entering the venue together.
Do transferred tickets work in Apple Wallet?
Yes, once accepted they can be added to Apple Wallet or Google Pay. Force-close and reopen the Ticketmaster app if the wallet option does not show up right away.
